“Turant Customs” is a faceless assessment programme by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) aimed to facilitate ease of doing business.
Under Turant Customs, importers will now get their goods cleared from Customs after a faceless assessment is done remotely by the Customs officers located outside the port of import.
Quick remote verification of the documents about imported items is the main component of the Turant Customs initiative.
The programme was launched at Bengaluru and Chennai to take advantage of the technology for faster Customs clearance of imported goods.
As an initial step, Turant customs has been provided for importers.
The Turant Cutoms thus has two objectives:
(i) Speedy clearance of goods imported
(ii) Ensuring transparency through faceless assessment.
