Consumer Price Index -urban and rural

CSO prepares consumer price index for urban and rural population. Urban and rural CPIs are constructed for each state and union territories.
The Urban CPI and Rural CPI are calculated on the basis of the data collected from the respective areas. Urban CPI includes all cities/towns with population more than 9 lakh as per the 2001 Population Census, covering 310 towns. On the other hand, the rural CPI is based on representative samples of two villages from each district, covering 1181 villages across India.
Following are the five difference product groups and their respective weights under the CPI. The group miscellaneous mainly comprises of services items.
