Consumer Price Index in India (by the CSO)

The CPI prepared by the Central Statistics Office (CSO), under MOSPI is the most representative price index in the country now. It is a newly constructed index prepared and is published from 2011 onwards. The index represents retail inflation on an all India basis for all categories compared to the category specific CPIs prepared by the Labour Bureau of MOLE. To differentiate it from other category specific CPIs, the CPI is often called as combined CPI or all India CPI.
The CPI for all India has now emerged as the most credible price index.
The CSO also prepares CPIs for rural, urban for each state and UT as well as the All India rural, urban and combined CPIs.
