Foreign Portfolio Investment

Foreign Portfolio Investment (FPI) is investment by non-residents in Indian securities including shares, government bonds, corporate bonds, convertible securities, infrastructure securities etc. Foreign Institutional Investors like mutual funds, insurance companies etc., are the important entities making FPI.

The class of investors who make investment in these securities are known as Foreign Portfolio Investors. FPI is a form of capital flows and is recorded in the capital account of India’s balance of payments.
