FEMA or Foreign Exchange Management Act

FEMA is the law, rules and regulations for dealing with foreign currencies in India. It is a consolidation of laws relating to foreign exchange (foreign currencies) with the objective of facilitating external trade and payments. FEMA became effective from 1st day of June 2000, though the FEMA Act was passed in 1999. FEMA was introduced in place of the previous FERA.
