Decanalisation was a trade liberalisation policy adopted in the early 1990s. Till then, most of the imports were made by public sector enterprises on behalf of all importers (this is called canalisation). Decanalisation is the end of canalisation. Decanalisation means the end of public sector channelized imports and importers can import goods on their own.
