Foreign investment is the investment by non-residents in India. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and Foreign Portfolio Investments (FPI) are the major forms of foreign investments.
Correspondingly, there are investments made by Indians in foreign countries. Investment by Indian companies and individuals in foreign countries are represented as dollar outflows or debit. This is often called as outward foreign investment. Compared to investment by foreigners in India, investment by Indians in foreign countries are small.
